У Філадельфії (США) на 2300 Arena відбувся поєдинок за титул чемпіона світу з боксу за версією WBC в напівважкій вазі (до 79,4 кг) між українцем Олександром Гвоздиком і представником ДР Конго Дуду Нгумбу. Гвоздик здобув перемогу технічним нокаутом у п’ятому раунді і захистив чемпіонський пояс.

Для українського боксера це був перший захист чемпіонського титулу, який він завоював у листопаді минулого року в бою з канадцем Адонісом Стівенсоном.

Початок бою з Нгумбу пройшов під диктовку українця, Гвоздик шукав і знаходив прогалини в обороні суперника, кілька разів пробив лівим боковим в голову.

Однак вирішальний епізод стався в п’ятому раунді, коли африканець на рівному місці поскаржився на травму ноги. У поєдинку виникла пауза, а після цього тренерський штаб Нгумбу оголосив про капітуляцію свого спортсмена.

The beginning of the battle with Ngumbu passed under the dictation of a Ukrainian, Carnation sought and found gaps in the defense of the opponent, several times punched the left side to the head.

However, the decisive episode occurred in the fifth round, when the African at a flat spot complained of injury to the leg. A pause occurred in the match, after which the coaching headquarters of Nguyum announced the surrender of his athlete.
